Group Discussion 3: The role of the host organization
moderator: William Wells, Townhouse Gallery
What kind of guidance could and should the host provide to a resident artist? Does a less developed local infrastructure for visual art imply more extensive guidance? Does the host hold responsibility to guide and present the artist to the public? What kind of context guidance should be provided by the host organization to prepare the artist for contentious social, political, and religious affairs? Is there a danger of this form of preparation becoming a form of censorship?
In this session, participants will be encouraged to share ideas about the kind of support and advice that resident artists should be given to make the residency as fruitful as possible.
Statements for Discussion
