Chris Keulemans

Chris Keulemans (Tunis, 1960) is a traveling writer and journalist, based in Amsterdam. He spent part of his childhood in Burkina Faso and Iraq. He has written articles and essays about artists in troubled societies, partly on his travelblog www.submarinechannel.com/artaftercrisis. His travels brought him to places such as Algiers, Ramallah, Beirut, Sarajevo, Jakarta and Tirana. He spent time as writer in residence in Iowa, Montreal, Ramallah and Jakarta. He is the former director of De Balie, centre for culture and debate in Amsterdam. Next year, he will open De Tolhuistuin, a new arts centre on the wrong side of the river in Amsterdam. Here, he will also host artists in residence.
